Greetings Dear Friends!  I hope this message finds you in a place of peace, abundance and well-being as the season shifts from the effulgence of Summer into the gentle release of Autumn.  It has been nearly two months from my last newsletter, and I am grateful to reignite my sacred work and service with community at this auspicious time of great change.  The last few months has been a period of deep inner healing, contemplation and learning upon my path.  Along my journey, I have discovered the importance of taking what I call “Soul Reprieves”.  A thoughtful stepping away from the intensity of continuous service to focus in on core inner work, healing and personal growth as to better support those I am entrusted as a husband, father, guide and mentor.  These times are not always scheduled, which requires a courageous leap of faith into the unknown.  Yet they are nevertheless, always timely and essential – allowing me to step back into the gift of this profound life with deeper care, clarity and gratitude.

I am also thrilled to share a recent pilot experience I had the honor to co-create called “Sacred Men’s Embodiment Retreat” held at our home sanctuary Communitas was a tremendous success.  For the past year, I’ve been diving deep into Men’s work.  Gathering together with earnest men bravely opening up to deeper layers of vulnerability, accountability, integrity, compassion and virtue.  It has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life, leading me to realize just how much contemporary culture, family lineage, and trauma has adversely impacted healthy mature growth within men… Myself very much included – and how meaningful it is to support a new template for mature compassion men.

This four day retreat experience was a culmination of deep inner work.  Gathering together as family & tribe, together we learned to let go of past wounds and uplift one another, face the shadows that bind us, express raw unfiltered emotions in a safe way, and dive deep into the medicine to discover and nurture our essential nature.   Thank you so much for the dear brothers who participated and helped to co-create this experience.  I will cherish the gifts received from this weekend forever.  If you have a desire to participate in a future Sacred Men’s Embodiment Retreat please Reply to this Email with interest and I will be honored to put you on our list.  These experiences are going to intentionally remain small and intimate to ensure focused attention is placed on each journeyer for authentic relationship building and generative support.  We are currently exploring dates for a cozy winter edition in the mountains.

I want to thank each and every one of you for continuing to be a part of the SpArc community!  Its an honor to be of service at this time of great collective change. I hope you enjoy the additional articles, resources and opportunities in this newsletter fresh from the psychedelic frontier. Cheers to the Journey!

Four Main Reasons for Adverse Psychedelic Experiences
So often, I hear professionals in the psychedelic field debate on if there is such thing as a bad trip? In my 20 years of experience in psychedelics, there are definitely deeply challenging situations that can transpire in a journey that can have a long-term destabilizing impact on well-being. Yet, I believe that unpacking the nature of these trips can help mitigate their frequency and support the essential path of integration.  It is also deeply supportive to demystify these experiences, so that prospective journeyers can contemplate on mature and responsible ways to engage with the medicine and regulate their inner state with confidence while under the influence having knowledge and preparation around these potential challenges.

4 reasons for adverse experiences are as follows:

🎡 Inappropriate Setting: So often people ingest psychedelics without honoring the sheer power of the medicine- and take it in places that lack safety, support and coherence.  I.e. high dosing for a concert to amplify an experience – not realizing that yesterday’s big argument or the un-grieved loss of a friend may come surging to the fore. Instead of fractals of sonic bliss, the journeyer is grappling with existential fear, guilt and anger with the volume turned up to 11. This also applies to stepping into a facilitated experience where the guide is untrained, unethical, and/or lacks experience to support the highly vulnerable unfolding of one’s healing process. One can learn from such an experience, yet often at the cost of another trauma..

Join us for a night of connection, community celebration, and renewal of our collective healing as we gather at Highland Events Center in Asheville, NC for our fourth annual Gathering of the Pearl. Once again, we will have a special gratitude party for all sponsors of this event on the roof top prior to the main event. The dress for this is festive casual as once again we will have some of Asheville’s finest musicians creating the vibe for a memorable dance party. Along with the music, we will have some very special speakers including Bryan Hubbard, Rick Doblin, Chris Bache, myself and many more including the Pearl’s own Jackie Dobrinska once again reigning as the MC of the evening. We hope to see you there! Click the link below to purchase one of the few remaining tickets to the evenings festivities.

A study involving psychedelic-naïve clergy from various major world religions found that six months after undergoing two psilocybin-assisted sessions, participants reported a number of positive changes in their religious practices, attitudes toward their faith, and perceived effectiveness as religious leaders. They also showed improvements in mood, general attitudes, and behavior compared to a control group that had not yet received the drug at the time of comparison. The paper was published in Psychedelic Medicine.

Never in my life have I ever been so touched by the presence of a teacher as I have by Acharya Shunya. Meeting her at a recent Love, Serve & Remember retreat – her wisdom, message and compassionate presence burned through to my core.  She helped me to remember who I am and why I am here on this earth without even saying a word – like Ram Das meeting Maharaji.  And since that experience, I have become devoted to her teachings and lineage, which are masterfully expressed in her book the Sovereign Self.

As the first female lineage holder in a 2,000-year-old line, Shunya provides a rare opportunity to receive these authentic teachings from a genuine Vedic master—one with a distinctly down-to-earth, feminine flavor who never lets us forget that our humanity is to be embodied and enjoyed. She is a treasure, and makes these teachings not only accessible but practical to every day in a beautiful & deeply meaningful way.  I hope you enjoy!
