Ehren Cruz
Greetings Dear Friends!

I hope this message finds you feeling well nourished and in a state of lasting gratitude from the Thanksgiving holiday.  Although, I also acknowledge that the holiday season is a time of great sensitivity for many due to challenges of the past, wounds of loss and nostalgic remembrances this time of year tends to invoke.  Yet however this season finds you, I hope you feel well supported – ensuring you have what you need to feel whole and true to yourself as we move toward the grand finale of one epic transformational year.

Lately I have been reflecting on the power of silence and stillness – in both my outer world and inner landscape.  In day to day life, I’ve made a distinct point of trimming down on the non-essentials such as social media, news, the mellow dramas of friends and relations, etc…  and instead of filling the gaps with additional noise and content, choosing to embrace the interim moments for quiet contemplation and rest. I’ve also been honoring a resolved commitment to nurture inner silence even amongst the din of the world. Choosing to rest in the inner void of possibility without feeling a need to push for answers, find solutions or have it all “figured out”.  This can be a considerable challenge at times, as our western culture is so deeply ingrained with a propensity to continuously consider, solutionize, meaning make and engage with our thoughts in a never ending stream of actions and reactions.  Yet what I have found, especially at this time of year as the natural worlds calms down into a primal stillness, is there is a vital power that comes from truly embracing the uncertainty of the moment… Choosing to abide in the stillness.  If a question doesn’t have a clear resonant answer – then no use pondering.  If a situation still rests in the question mark – probably best then to let it linger a bit longer.  If I’m not sure which way to go, I choose to let go of the pressure, remain vigilant, open and curious – and continue to attune to that which my efforts may clearly serve.  Ultimately, it’s about cultivating trust in right timing and leaving the rest behind. Not getting anxious and pulling the parachute while still in the plane.

Yet beyond even the power of mindful quiet consideration, is my personal discovery of a truth that rests at the heart of some of the world’s most timeless cherished teachings – That Silence is where the Sacred resides.  From the Toltec wisdom of Don Miguel’s Four Agreements teaching silence as the greatest resource, to Rumi’s resting of his pen at the end of his poems to allow the silence of the beloved to fill the words where his voice cannot reach, to the ancient Vedic teachings of silence being the space where the true sovereign Self/Soul resides – it is the inner eternal quiet that gives birth to all possibility.  Behind all actions, thoughts and experiences – rests an impregnated realm of pure being.  This source is humming with pure creative vitality, undisturbed by the push and pull of the human will.  As you deepen into the fabric of the inner contemplation this Winter season, I invite you to embrace the power of silence.  Let it fill you up and nourish you, provide you with genuine rest calming the ceaseless mind. Giving you the time and space to contemplate what is truly aligned action. Guide you to the doorway and hearth fire of true peace and contentment.

In this SpArc newsletter, is a series of fascinating articles on the successful use of psychedelics in augmenting 12 step programs; a call for increased federal psilocybin research funding, how psilocybin and mindfulness is supporting healthcare workers; reducing suicidal ideation in trials and showing great promise in longevity studies.  Lastly, I’ve been featured on a new podcast called Keep Going: A Guide to Unlocking Success that I really enjoyed.  It is in my opinion the most succinct expression on the virtue of my work in 20 minutes I’ve ever been able to articulate.  Thank you for joining me on this odyssey of the soul this year in the SpArc.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out if I can be of service to your personal journey or be an ally for those you love. It is my honor to be of service to the path of self-actualization during these powerful times of awakening. Onward and inward!

Sincerely,
Ehren

I really enjoyed the opportunity to share on the Keep Going Podcast withJohn Biggs! In a focused 20 minutes, we covered key considerations on the healing potential of psychedelics – including many important considerations beyond the catalytic medicine experience itself. Below is a great description from John’s own words. I hope you all find this dialog supportive to your journey.

“I first spoke with Ehren Cruz and felt something I do not get often in this space, grounded optimism. He runs a retreat center north of Asheville and guides people through psilocybin journeys with a process that looks more like a rite of passage than a thrill ride. Here is how he works. He starts with a real assessment. Meds, mental health history, trauma, and whether he is the right person to help. Then a month of preparation. Sleep, food, time off the treadmill, and intention. He teaches basic emotional regulation so you are not surprised by your own mind. Only then do you sit. Music, instruments, careful facilitation, and a room that feels safe. Afterward comes the hard part, landing the craft. What did you learn. What will you change. Who do you need to forgive. How will you embody that tomorrow morning.

If the language around psychedelics feels too soft, Ehren can meet you in plain English. He talks about neuroplasticity and the way a wider thalamic filter lets you consider ideas that your habitual self would ignore. He also talks about something older. Fungi as a living partner, not a static compound. You bring your healing intelligence. The medicine brings its own. The work happens in the space between. We talked about the fear of change. Many people know they need it but stay put. The familiar pain feels safer than the unknown. Ehren gave me a frame I like. Letting go happens when the risk of staying the same finally outweighs the risk of stepping into mystery. You do not need to force it. You prepare the ground and notice when the fruit is ready to drop.”

Amid an evolving psychedelic drug policy landscape and limitations of existing substance use disorder (SUD) treatments, a novel addiction recovery paradigm has emerged involving augmentation of 12-Step program engagement with therapeutic psychedelic use. A preliminary qualitative analysis was initiated to describe this movement by examining real-world experiences of participants in remission from alcohol, opioid, and stimulant use disorders. Between November 2022 and February 2023, data collection was piloted with nine individuals reporting ayahuasca, ibogaine, psilocybin, and/or peyote use in combination with 12-Step engagement. Participants were intentionally recruited through a community partner to explore this emerging phenomenon; findings are not intended to generalize to broader 12-Step communities. Motivations included challenges with sobriety, psychological distress during abstinence, dissatisfaction with existing SUD treatments, and the relative accessibility of this community-based approach compared to clinical care. Participants highlighted reduced SUD-related cravings, psychospiritual mechanisms of behavior change, and synergistic effects of psychedelics with Steps 2, 4, and 11… Read More.

Psilocybin + Mindfulness Shows Promise for Healthcare Worker Depression: Report

Frontline healthcare workers struggling with depression after the COVID-19 pandemic experienced significant relief from a treatment combining psilocybin group therapy with mindfulness training, according to a new study from Huntsman Mental Health Institute at University of Utah Health. Doctors and nurses who received this controlled, group psilocybin therapy along with an eight-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program saw far greater improvements than those who only learned mindfulness techniques… Read More.

The SpArc Soul Path Mentorship Program

What does it mean to awaken into true flow? What does it take to arrive into that place of Being? Not just a moment of temporary coherence like an athlete who drops into the “zone” – but a state of enduring freedom, rapt presence, and dynamic creativity as the primary way you move through the world. What would it mean to live untethered by the limitations of your conditioned mind, instead experiencing life as an interconnected expression of your very nature?

Soul Path Mentorship is a 12-phase program designed to reconnect you with your essential being, your innate SELF that is boundless in potential and impact. Our first step together, is to build a powerful new foundation — your Client Internal Operating System — based in extraordinary self-care, clear personal boundaries and a disciplined adherence to wellness habits and mindfulness practices that support daily renewal, presence and growth.

With that groundwork set, we will then clarify and invigorate the “North Star” of your soul path. Through identifying and anchoring in your core values that define your vision and mission, we will determine with unshakable clarity not only that which you want to create in your life, but more importantly, how to become a living expression of it.

Finally, you will learn to alchemize a lifestyle that embodies your awareness into a continual psycho-spiritual flow. Through the adherence to a  path forged in personal accountability, discernment and the art of authentic resonance, you will gradually make the transition from a life of mental management to that of genuine heart coherence. The result – awaking into lasting presence that emanates vitality, resilience and freedom.

The Soul Path Mentorship program is not a bypass. It asks for your dedication to a process of rigorous healing, letting go of false narratives, and honest transformation. To actualize the inner light of your essential nature, you must be willing to face the shadow: the neurotic patterning born of trauma, wounds, and conditioning that often influences our lives in self-sabotaging ways. This path invites you into a lifestyle of self-reflection and impeccable effort, becoming a compassionate warrior in your inner and outer landscape.
In the end, this journey isn’t just about achieving goals. It’s a journey of soul remembrance. To rekindle the fire of the perfection that is inherently who you truly are.  Yet to get there, the ask is your devotion to healing, truth, and self-mastery. The result, awake into a way of Being that will change the way you experience life itself in every possible way.

A new study published in Therapeutic Advances in Psychopharmacology provides evidence that psilocybin therapy may reduce suicidal ideation in adults with psychiatric conditions. The findings come from a systematic review and meta-analysis of clinical trials and suggest that the psychedelic compound, when paired with psychological support, may have a modest but measurable impact on decreasing thoughts of suicide. Although suicide attempts and deaths were not observed in these trials, the results point to the possibility that psilocybin could play a role in mental health treatment strategies aimed at reducing suicide risk…

A new scientific review published by the American Medical Association (AMA) shows that use of psilocybin has “surged” in the U.S. in recent years amid the decriminalization movement and in light of “promising clinical trial results” on its therapeutic potential. But the paper, released on Wednesday, also points out that current federal laws present “a major barrier” to researchers gaining a better understanding of the psychedelic substance’s true impacts. As a result, similar to what’s been observed during the state-level marijuana legalization push, “public access and enthusiasm are outpacing regulatory oversight and scientific understanding, posing potential risks to public health,” researchers said…

I first came across this masterful text on a coffee table in my therapist office.  Each time I visited, I would open up to a random page. Time and time again, I was moved almost to tears by the exquisite poetic dance of Rumi with the sacred source, he calls the beloved.  This book is an absolute masterpiece for the eyes, ears and heart.  As the accompanying illustrations to the poems breath in yet another layer of life giving beauty.  Since I have encountered this book, I have been reading Rumi nightly and am now on my fourth volume.  His words are a true pathway into the awakened heart.  I hope you enjoy!
